I live in the Boston Area with my spouse and child, and am a university lecturer teaching courses in GIS and food systems.
I am a car free bicycle commuter, and like nature observation, foraging, making crafts, Deep Canvassing, and talking about big ideas.
In my academic life, I do a lot of computer modeling, and I'm a big fan of systems dynamics thinking. I used to hang out with the STS folks at Harvard, which has helped shape my thinking.
We are encouraging all W3C-related accounts to do the same.

Social media can have a bad name nowadays but we're working to make a good community here.
"Are there ethical considerations related to immersion on the web, such as issues of privacy, digital addiction, or data security?
“The web provides an infrastructure for a variety of mediums to reach, engage and influence billions of people. To protect the web and its users there are international standards in place governed by The World Wide Web Consortium or W3C."

Addendum: Actually, having reminded myself what this interface looks like, I think Friendica threads are better formatted than Bonfire threads.
I've been trying out Friendica and Friendica groups provide the same functionality as Bonfire circles, Friendica provides well-formatted conversation threading similar to Bonfire, and Friendica already federates.
I believe there are other protocols that have made similar headway too, although I havne't tried them out yet.
In light of that, can someone convince me that the Bonfire project is truly worthwhile?
I'm posting this here rather than on Mastodon because I think the Bonfire people seem to have good intentions and perhaps their project goes somewhere, but can someone help me understand what truly compelling features Bonfire is planning to develop that aren't already provided by Friendica or other ActivityPub platforms?
