My #Fediverse experience as of the time of writing and at least until April 17, 2026:
1. See interesting post in another instance.
2. Try to interact with it in my instance.
3. Get an error like the thing I was trying to see does not exist at all; as if the person had dropped off the face of earth.
This is because of an instance-wide Suspend that I have written about before. I am waiting for arbitration on this; after some grumbling and thinking (which you can see in my history and on Loomio) I think it is fine to wait for a relatively democratic process to settle the question.
Imagine if priests, monks and nuns went around being salty and dismissive of the general population because they are not celibate like them.
That's representative of way too many [[AI celibates]] in the #Fediverse as of the time of writing.

Started a [[pulse check]] on how we want to treat #Fediverse accounts that develop or use AI, pending consent mechanisms.
I recommend we limit if necessary (when reported) but do not suspend. This allows people to inform their consent or dissent while leaving both options on the table for others.
There is so much snark in the #Fediverse about [[vibe coding]] that you just know people are scared and/or salty.
It is just weird to me that people feel this confident about what's right and allow themselves to be freely and widely dismissive of other people's computing needs and patterns. Why can't we each do what we need and prefer, and respect each other's choices without dismissal and interference?
